MONARCHS END OUTLAW SEASON 5-17-2009-- After coming back from a 2-4 season to finish at 4-4 and .500 the Outlaws just didn't have enough to down the #1 playoff seed. The Portland Monarchs dominated and downed the Outlaws 42-6 ending the 2009 campaign. Despite the lopsioded loss the Outlaws finished strong in just making the playoffs and several players were named to the All-League Teams: Kenny Washington 2nd Team RB Ryan Davidson Honorable Mention FB Chris DuPont Honorable Mention REC Caleb Hitt 1st Team OL Dustin Holmes 2nd Team OL Dereck Myers 2nd Team SS Shane Lumpkins Honorable Mention FS |Ian Bjorklund Honorable Mention LB Dustin Holmes 2nd Team DL Portland advances to the OFL Final to face the Warriors. OREGON GETS PLAYOFF BERTH 5-10-2009-- With their backs against the walls the Oregon Outlaws defeated Umpqua Knights to finish the OFL season at 4-4 and earn the #4 seed in the playoffs. The Outlaws will get a rematch at the Monarchs next Saturday. OUTLAWS GET BIG ROAD WIN 5-3-2009-- The Oregon Outlaws kept their playoff hopes alive with a big 18-14 win over Klamath Crusaders last Saturday. If the Outlaws defeat the Umpqua Knights this Saturday they will finish the season at .500 and make the OFL playoffs for the fourth straight season as the #4 seed and would face the Portland Monarchs in the 1st round. OUTLAWS SUFFER SETBACK TO WARRIORS4-25-2009-- Once again leading in the second half the Oregon Outlaws just couldn't quite finish and lost to the Rogue Warriors 9-6 at Cottage Grove High School Saturday night. The defense gave their all, not allowing any points to be scored on them. And again the offense had several good drives which just stalled for whatever reason. Rogue opened the scoring with a 2nd quarter safety after the Outlaw center snapped the ball over the punters head. The punter was able to grab the ball in the endzone to prevent a touchdown for the Warrios. The score would remain 2-0 at half-time. The Oregon offense then seemed to get on track in the third when Kenny Washington broke for a 30 yard TD run with 4:21 left. A two-point conversion failed however and the Outlaws were up 6-2. The team seemed to have its swager back and the defense continued to dominate. Again the offense seemed to be moving under the guidance of Jesse Terrel at QB but the Rogue defense was able to force him to fumble and the defender returned the mishap for the go ahead touchdown and the last score of the game. The Outlaws weren't without their chances to take the lead. After a huge return by Andre Harris, Phil DuPont and Kenny Washington either had a miscommunication or DuPont was hit by a defender as his pitch to Washington went to the ground and Rogue recovered. The Outlaw defense, faced with a daunting task, managed to hold Rogue and Oregon got the ball back. Harris was again the hero or so it seemed as he caught a pass deep in Warrior territory but the play was called back to to a holding call. Eventually Oregon was able to move the ball deep into Warrior territory when with 1:15 left Ryan Davidson had the ball stripped as he fought for extra yardage at the end of a big run inside the 20 at which point the Warriors were able to run the clock out because the Outlaws had used all of their timeouts. The Outlaws play next at the Klamath County Crusaders on May 2nd and still have a mathematical shot at the OFL playoffs. Pictures from the game are available here. VIPERS COMEBACK AGAINST OUTLAWS 4-19-2009-- Taking a 7-0 lead early the Outlaws were looking to bounce back after a close road loss to the Buzzards the previous game, only to be disappointed in a 15-18 loss to the Vancouver Vipers. The Outlaws gave up a field goal in the second quarter and actually held a 15-3 lead at on point, however the Vipers were able to take advantage of two stalled Outlaw drives in the red zone to close the margin to 10-15 and then the final 15 to 18 margin. The Oregon defense played well most of the game, stuffing the Vipers running game for the most part but gave up a few big plays in the loss. The Outlaws running game was very effective until late in the 4th quarter. So, despite two fairly well played games the Outlaws are now at 2-3 for the season. The team hopes to redeem itself this Saturday with its final regular season home game at Cottage Grove High School when they take on the Rogue Warriors at 6pm. The Outlaws finish the regular season with two road games at Klamath and Umpqua on May 2nd and 9th respectively. Pictures from the Vipers game can be seen at this Northwest Sports Pics link. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: GAME AGAINST VIPERS LOCATION CHANGED 4-16-2009-- The home game scheduled for Saturday, April 18th against the Vancouver Vipers has been moved from Churchill High School to the new Cottage Grove High School located at 1375 S River Rd in Cottage Grove. Game time is still scheduled for 6pm. OUTLAWS LOSE HEARTBREAKER TO BUZZARDS4-4-2009-- After a hard fought 8-3 home win over the High Desert Lightning the week before the Oregon Outlaws hit the road to Lowell, Oregon to face the Springfield Buzzards in search of their first road win of the 2009 season. Unfortunetly the team came home still looking for a road victory having lost a close game to the Buzzards 26-30. Oregon had several chances late in the game, getting three shots into the endzone with under two minutes to play after a successful drive got them in scoring range, however none of the passes were caught and the Buzzards recorded their first win over the Outlaws after taking over on downs. Oregon will return home on Saturday April 18th to face the Vancouver Vipers for outright second place in the North Division. Game time is set for 6:00pm. Pictures of the Buzzards road game from Northwest Sports Pics are available here! PORTLAND ENDS OUTLAWS STREAK 3-22-2009--The Portland Monarchs put a decisive end to the Outlaws league win streak downing Oregon 42-14. It was the Outlaws worst defeat in team history including NNFL days. After falling behind to the Monarchs 13-0 in the second quarter it looked as if the Outlaws might come back scoring on a 2 yard run then a 4 yard pass to lead 14-13. However that was all the scoring Oregon could muster and Portland went on to score 29 unanswered points for the win. The Outlaws return home for a game against the High Desert Lightning on Saturday March 28th. The game is scheduled for a 6pm start at Churchill High School. Stats will be linked to when made available. MONARCHS STUN OUTLAWS 21-20 6-14-2008-- Oregon ran out to a big 12-0 lead early in the game. Using ball control to keep the Monarchs from gaining possesion. Oregon opened the scoring in the first quarter when Niles Mitashe ran the ball in from three yards out, however the kick was blocked and that would haunt the team later in the game. The Outlaw defense forced two turnovers and also held on, on a field goal attempt by the Monarchs. Meanwhile, the second Outlaw score of the game was a big 66 yard pass from Dupont to Doss to make the margin 12-0 as mentioned above. The Monarchs finally were able to score on the Outlaws late in the second quarter making the score 12-7 at half time. The Outlaws had to kick off to open the second half and the Monarchs responded with a big drive, marching down the field to give them a 14-12 lead. Oregon, however, would come right back with a big drive of their own, getting the lead back at 20-14 on a DuPont to DuPont 6 yard pass. The Monarchs would get one more score in the third quarter, on a ten yard TD run, taking a 21-20 lead. But the Outlaws weren't about to give up and mounted a drive late in the game. One could argue the Outlaws were going to score a touchdown or atleast get a good shot at a short field goal when the ball was stripped after a big reception, deep in M onarchsd territory, pretty much ending a chance of an Outlaw comeback. Pictures from the game by Jay Davis are available here.
